As springtime temperatures finally hit New York City we can finally shed those coats and scarves and dare to wear less layers. It's always amusing to see how the people of the city embrace the warmth. I get it, we've suffered through weeks of bone chilling temperatures, but on the first sunny day shorts and flip flops seem extreme.
I like to transition slowly. That way if one day surprises us with cold weather again, my disappointment won't be that high. Shoes are still closed toe, still packing a sweater just in case, and haven't busted out dresses or skirts yet.
The one sure way we can celebrate the arrival of spring is with jewelry! To me coral screams spring and summer. It's a beautiful vibrant color, looks great with gold jewelry, and matches warmer skin tones. Coral has been used for jewelry since Ancient times; however, Italians really carved it into exotic shapes and cameos that are so interesting. I have coral jewelry from the Victorian Era to modern day.
What's more lively than coral earrings? Here is have paired a great pair of everyday coral hoop earrings with a beautiful Art Nouveau bangle.
Without a coat and less layers, we can roll up our sleeves a little and wear a bangle or two, or three...
Or a fabulous coral necklace with a crisp white shirt and jeans?
I like the effortless look of chunky gold jewelry and a coral ring. Shown here is a coral bangle made by Van Cleef & Arpels circa 1990 with a classic vintage coral Alhambra ring also by Van Cleef & Arpels.
Pair a little coral with lapis or turquoise and we have a whole new topic of discussion!
Enjoy your spring days!
