Jewels for Mama
Mother's Day is just around the corner. Jewelry may not be everyone's first thought for gifting Mom, but I thought it would be fun to put together some jewelry looks that Mom might like. When I worked in a high end retail store, every Saturday before Mother's Day one father used to bring his daughters into the store to let them choose the jewelry gift for Mom. That's a great Dad.
How about a cool pink tourmaline and sapphire flower ring? Here I paired it with a Victorian cabochon amethyst bangle bracelet. The bracelet is rose gold which is perfect for today's fashion, and the vibrant amethyst is colorful yet refined. The Louis Vuitton handbag is also a nice Mother's Day gift, but I digress.
If you want to go more vintage, silver topped gold Georgian rings are edgy and fun. I've paired a larger rose cut diamond ring (the ring is made from a brooch) with a beautiful old mine diamond five stone ring. An 18k gold clutch handbag today rivals an Hermes Birken in value these days. It's a throwback to another era, and it certainly puts Judith Leiber in a new light!
Or a more subtle Mother's Day choice could be a simple pendant that expresses love and romance. Here are three antique choices - an Art Nouveau pendant with birds, an enamel pansy and a Victorian heart locket.
I love this pair of crystal and gold pendant earrings. I think it's swingy and sexy and fun to wear. The gold fringe moves around the crystal faceted pendant. Such an unusual earring from the turn of the century. So modern and fresh!
I think Amethyst is a very pretty stone for Mother's Day. Purple is a great color for spring, it matches well with denim and pastels. Plus amethyst is not a very expensive stone, so it can be worn everyday and withstand everyday wear. Here is a purely Victorian look, pairing a gold hollow Victorian bracelet with a pretty amethyst bangle and two Memorial rings. It's edgy and modern at the same time.
Whatever your plans are for celebrating Mother's Day, make it special.
