Antique Late Victorian 14 Karat Gold Black Enamel Cuff Bracelet

SOLD

Antique 14k gold black enamel cuff bracelet, circa 1880. Known also as a "mourning bracelet," this bracelet is black so that those who were in mourning could wear jewelry along with their dark attire. The bracelet is solid enamel all around the cuff, except where the cuff's hinges are where there is some filigree engraving. The gold has a rose hue to it. There is an engraving on the inside, "S. Aldrich." Mourning jewelry became a very popular fad when Queen Victoria of England openly mourned the death of her husband Albert and wore lots of black jewelry - some made of enamel, or jet or onyx. This bracelet comes from this time frame. The bracelet is 2 inches wide at the widest point interior measurement. It is 1 5/8 inches from top to bottom also interior measurement. It is about 6 inches around on the inside of the bangle.
