Georgian pink topaz foil backed riviere necklaces are becoming more and more rare. The pretty light pink to slightly purple color are enhanced by the closed back setting characteristic of Georgian jewelry craftsmanship. The foil behind the stones in the setting often imparts its own color. The closed back setting also traps the right creating more brilliance from the color. These riviere necklaces were made in many different stones, including yellow topaz, amethyst and even colored paste. Today, many ladies like to wear several of them layered. The pink topaz in this necklace are mostly oval, and the irregularity of shapes in the necklace speak to the rarity of pink topaz. It dates to about 1820. This necklace is made in 15k gold and has a large oval clasp. It is 15 1/2 inches long.
