Rare Antique Art Nouveau Enamel Diamond Orchid Brooch by Hedges
SOLD
A wonderfully rendered purple iris colored enamel orchid made around 1910. This gorgeous pin was manufactured by Hedges and Co. in Newark, NJ. There were quite a few jewelry manufacturers at the turn of the century in Newark, and they were making enamel flowers, most notably pansy pins, as well as earrings, cufflinks and chains. While various colored pansy pins by Hedges are available, this special orchid is more rare. We believe this pin depicts a Cattelya orchid mostly found in Latin and South America. The old mine cut diamond weighs approximately 0.10 cts. A small pearl depicts the piston of the flower.
