An exquisite example of antique Victorian "carbuncle" jewelry. This pendant centers on a large cabochon garnet, "carbuncle," suspended from a large bail, and white enamel accents surround. The pendant is enhanced by gold foxtail fringe. It is accompanied by its original fitted box, likely from 1880 and Continental Europe. On the reverse the pendant has its original glass locket, and fabric which could have been used to hold hair as a memento. The oversized pendant is unusual and rare. It measures 3 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inch wide.
