Antique Early Victorian 18 Karat Gold Rosecut Diamond Snake Ring
$5,500.00
SOLD
A rare early Victorian 18k gold snake ring set with a pear shape rosecut diamond on its head. There is a hand inscription of “4th Marz 1841” on the inside indicating its age and origin. Though it appears Meirz, I believe that is an A with the umlaut on top indicating the German word for the month of March. The ring has a smooth feel to it with its original patina. Snakes were a popular Victorian era ring, since Prince Albert gifted Queen Victoria a snake ring on their betrothal. Snakes are though to symbolize everlasting love and eternity. This ring with a lovely pear shape rosecut diamond is a lovely example of such a ring. We love how it is thick and sturdy on the underside of the ring. It currently is a size 7 and can be resized but only within limits and with care.
